13 members of the CA Debate team traveled to Lexington Kentucky over the weekend of September 9th thru 12th to compete in the Season Opener hosted by the Univeristy of Kentucky. Rebecca Liu was the 8th Place Speaker in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
Five members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team traveled to Lousiville Kentucky over the week of June 12th thru the 17th to compete in the National Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament. JR Cobb broke to the octafinal round in United States Extempornaeous Speaking placing in the top 60 out of 254 competitors. After being eliminated in US Extemp JR entered Impromptu Speaking where he reached the semifinal round placing in the top 14 of 395 competitors. Nash Brown reached the Triple Octafinal round of World Schools Debate placing in the top 64. Also competing were Casey Powell in Lincoln Douglas Debate and Adam Levin and Ayan Jung in Public Forum Debate.
14 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team traveled to Washington, DC over Memorial Day weekend to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League's Grand National Tournament. Andrew Lim reached the final round of Declamation for the second consecutive year placing 4th overall out of 178 competitors. Nitya Nalamothu reached the Octafinal round of Extemporaneous Speaking placing in the top 60 of 176 competitors. Natasha Sachar was eliminated on a 2-1 decision in the Double Octafinal round of Lincoln Douglas Debate and the team of Adam Levin and Ayan Jung were eliminated on a 2-1 decison in the Double Octafinal round of Public Forum Debate.
23 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team participated in the virtual state championship hosted by the Tarheel Forensic League on Saturday April 30th. The team had an excellent showing placing second in overal sweepstakes, as well as second in both debate sweeps and speech sweeps. Isabel Chang was named the state champion in Declamation and the runner -up in Impromptu Speaking; and Casey Powell was undefeated and the top seed in the preliminary rounds before advacing to the final round to finish as the runner-up in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Katherine He reached the semifinals of Informative Speaking were she placed 11th.
32 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team traveled to Southern Pines over the weekend of April 2nd and 3rd to participate in the Tarheel Forensic League State Championship tournament hosted by Pinecrest High School. Competing in the team's first in person tournament in over two years resulted in an excellent showing as CA won first place in the Kurt Earnest Speech Sweepstakes and placed 3rd in the Governor's Cup for overall sweepstakes. For the second year in a row CA had two individual state champions as Katherine He repeated as the state champion in Informative Speaking and JR Cobb was the state champion in Impromptu Speaking. After five preliminary rounds all teams with winning records advanced to a double elmination bracket to determine the national qualifers. 7 of the 8 CA students competing advanced with Adam Levin and Ayan Jung emerging as the champions of Public Forum debate after going undefeated in prelims and reaching the final round of the undefeated bracket in the elimination rounds. The team of Fiona Hu and Ella Zhang placed 6th and were the 3rd alternates to Nationals after being eliminated in the 3rd elimination round. In Lincoln Douglas Debate Bryan Fang place 6th and was the 3rd alternate to Nationals after being eliminated in the 5th elimination round. Natasha Sachar was placed 8th and Rohen Giralt 9th after being eliminated in the 3rd and 4th elimination round respectively. Casey Powell was already auto-qualified for Nationals in Lincoln Douglas Debate after placing 14th at NSDA Nationals last year. This is the tenth straight year CA has qualified to Nationals in LD.
14 members of the CA Speech and Debate competed virtually in the Carolina East District Qualifier in speech the weekend of March 19th and 20th. At the end of two days of intense competition the following students qualifed in their respective events to compete in the National Speech and Debate Tournament to be held in Lousiville Kentucky in June:

After an intense day of competition CA emerged with a qualifier to the National Tournament in Congress for the eleventh straight year. Camryn Friedman placed 1st in the Senate qualifying to Nationals. This is the 22nd year in row CA has qualified to Nationals which is the longest current streak in the Carolina East District.
Two members of the CA debate team competed virtually in the Steven Davis Invitational hosted by Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte on Saturday February 26th. Rohen Giralt reached the semifinal round of Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate placing fourth overall, while Kaeshev Alapati was fifth. Rohen was also the fourth speaker and Kaeshev the fifth speaker.
