20 members of the CA Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the New York City Invitational hosted by the Bronx High School of Science over the weekend of October 16th thru 18th. Katherine He reached the semifinals of Informative Speaking placing in the top 12 of 62 competitors. Sydney Tai reached the semifinals of Program of Oral Interpretation placing in the top 8 of 41 competitors. Rohen Giralt reached the semifinals of Junior Varisty Lincoln Douglas Debate placing in the top 4 of 53 entries. In addition the Junior Varsity Public Forum teams of Evan Chang and Nash Brown, and William Su and Price Taylor reached the Double Octafinal round placing them in the top 32 of 98 teams.
108 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed in the first Dogwood Speech and Debate League tournament of the year hosted virtually on Saturday October 10th. CA had a strong showing across the board leading it to the overall sweepstakes championship for the 3rd straight Dogwood League tournament dating back to last season. The team had a strong showing with six of the eighteen students competing reaching the elimination rounds in their respective events. Alex Lim was the champion of Humorous Interpretation placing first out of 88 competitiors. Katherine He reached the semifinals of Informative Speaking placing her in the top 15 of 90 competitors. Christina Polge reached the semifinals of Oral Interpetation placing her in the 18 of 54 competitors. Jay Sagrolikar reached the quarterfinals of Congressional Debate placing in the top 120 of 291 competitors. The Junior Varsity Public Forum team of Nash Brown and Evan Chang reached the Triple Octafinal round placing them in the top 56 of 163 teams.
