Cary Academy's novices competed in their last tournament of the year at the Dogwood Speech and Debate League Novice Championships on April 23rd at Cardinal Gibbons High School. The team had an outstanding showing with the following students receiving recognition for their performance:
Made Rockett- 1st Place, Declamation Justin Gabson- 3rd Place, Dramatic Interpretation Madisen Placzkowski - 2nd Place, Extemporaneous Speaking Elizabeth Maydew- 3rd Place, Extemporaneous Speaking Salma Said- 6th Place, Lincoln Douglas Debate Ava Autry- 1st Place, Oral Interpretation Emma Zayas- 2nd Place, Oral Interpretation Brett Alberse - 4th Place, Oral Interpretation Nell Levine -5th Place, Oral Interpretation Madi Rockett -6th Place, Oral Interpretation Caroline Spancake- 1st Place, Original Oratory Tommy Hugus- 2nd Place, Original Oratory Abby Geigerman- 3rd Place, Original Oratory RJ Jain- 1st Place, Student Congress Suki Bristol - 2nd Place, Student Congress Grace Wissink - 3rd Place, Student Congress For the second year in a row Cary Academy was the sweepstakes champion of the Tarheel East District Congress and advanced two Congressional debaters to the National Tournament. Jack Stafford qualified for nationals for the second time as the champion of House 3, and Ben Lipson qualified as the champion of House 2. Anjali Velu and Grey Spector placed second and were the first alternates to nationals in House 2 and House 3 respectively. Jonathan Segal and Georgia Dietz were the second alternates to nationals after placing third in House 1 and fourth in the Senate. Dylan Lamphier was fourth in House 1, and RJ Jain and Grace Siedel were sixth place in the Senate and House 1 respectively. With its victory at the District Congress CA swept all four sweepstakes awards at the District tournament for the first time in program history. This is the fifth straight year in which a Cary Academy student has qualified for the National Student Congress.
