Bharat Modhi and Jack Stafford traveled to New York City over the weekend of fall break to compete in the New York City Invitational hosted by the Bronx High School of Science. Both students reached the elimination rounds in their events as Bharat reached the quarterfinals of Extemporaneous Speaking, and Jack the semifinals of Legislative Debate. Jack also competed in a special by invitation only historical scenario session of Congress before the regular tournament began. The students celebrated their success by attending a Broadway show and taking an architectural tour of the boroughs of New York City.
Cary Academy won sweepstakes for the second straight tournament as the team turned in a very impressive showing at the Pamela Wadher Invitational hosted by Terry Sanford High School. This is the third time in the last four years that CA has earned the sweepstakes title at this tournament.The following individual student placements contributed to the team's victory:
