The Cary Academy Speech and Debate team had an outstanding start to their season this past weekend at the National Earlybird Tournament hosted by Wake Forest University. In Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate CA had 2 of the 4 competitors in semfinals, 3 of the 8 in quarterfinals, and the most of any school in the round of 16 (4). Jessie Liu and Alexis Williams were both semifinalists, and Nyal Patel and Alec Fischbein were eliminated in Quarters and Octas respectively after CA close outs of the bracket. In Public Forum Debate Neil Lewis and Sam Title cleared to the elimination rounds, and Neil was the 7th place speaker and Sam 14th place. Archita Chandra was a semifinalist in Original Oratory as well. The team placed 14th in Sweepstakes out of approximately 100 schools competing.
Senior Lauren Moore recently capped off her career by placing sixth in Extemp Commentary at the National Forensic League National Speech and Debate Tournament held the week of June 10-15 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
