12 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed on virtually on Saturday February 26th in the Carolina East District National Qualifier in Congressional Debate. After an intense day of competition CA emerged with a qualifier to the National Tournament in Congress for the eleventh straight year. Camryn Friedman placed 1st in the Senate qualifying to Nationals. This is the 22nd year in row CA has qualified to Nationals which is the longest current streak in the Carolina East District.
Two members of the CA debate team competed virtually in the Steven Davis Invitational hosted by Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte on Saturday February 26th. Rohen Giralt reached the semifinal round of Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate placing fourth overall, while Kaeshev Alapati was fifth. Rohen was also the fourth speaker and Kaeshev the fifth speaker.
16 membes of the CA Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the annual JV and Novice Championship hosted by the Dogwood Speech and Debate League. Hailey Zhang was the runner in Declamation and was joined in the final round by Kaitlyn Martin who placed 6th. In Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate Annie Boyse, Rebecca Liu, and Riley Ro recieved honorable mentions after having a 3-1 record but failing to advance to the elimination rounds based on speaker points.
13 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the 48th annual Harvard National Forensics Tournament hosted by Harvard University. Katherine He reached the semifinals of Informative Speaking placing her in the top 12 of 127 entries. In JV Lincoln Douglas Debate both Hamza Adnan and Katie Shen reached the Double Octafinal round and Katie Shen was the 11th Place Speaker. In JV Public Forum Debate the teams of Colin Troan & Dhiren Paravathaneni and Eric Xie and Owen Taffar reached the Triple Octafinal round.
Two members of the CA Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the Milo Cup hosted by Millard North High School in Omaha Nebraska. The team of Adam Levin and Ayan Jung reached the Double Octafinal round of Public Forum Debate and Ayan was the 10th Place Speaker.
2 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the Liberty Bell Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvannia during the weekend of February 12th and 13th. The Public Forum team of Nash Brown and Evan Chang reached the octafinal round placing in the top 16 of 165 teams.
50 members of the Cary Aacdemy Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the last Dogwood tournament of the season on Saturday February 5th. CA was once again the overall sweepstakes champion for the fifth time this year at a Dogwood tournament. For the seventh year in a row CA was named the overall league champions winning the Carole Hamilton Award. CA had five students recognized as the Points Race Champions in their respective events based on their performances at Dogwood tournaments throughout the season. Those students were:
