NCFL Grand Nationals 2014

Eight members of the Cary Academy Debate and Speech team traveled to Chicago over Memorial Day weekend to attend the National Catholic Forensic League's Grand National Tournament. Bill Peebles had an outstanding showing reaching the quarterfinals of Extemporaneous Speaking placing him in the top 24 of over 220 contestatnts. Bill was one of the top seeds after prelims receiving a rank of one from nine of twelve judges during the preliminary rounds and no rank lower than third. Hannah Hubbard reached the elimination rounds of Lincoln Douglas Debate after accumulating a 4-1 prelim record. She lost a split 2-1 decision in the double octafinal round placing her in the top 32 of 220 contestants. Puj Adusumilli, Laura Cabana, Daisy Gray, and Maaya Dev were all one win away from clearing after going 3-2 during the preliminary rounds. Nate Jones and Gregg Cornett also competed in Extemporaneous Speaking and Congressional Debate respectively. Students qualified to compete at this tournament based on their performance in the TFL points race based on the results of local regular season tournaments.
