23 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually over Memorial Day weekend in the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament hosted online for the first time. CA had a historically strong showing with 14 of the 23 students participating reaching the elmination rounds in their respective events. Andrew Lim finished the preliminary rounds as the top seed in Declamation and advanced all the way to the final round placing 4th out of a field of 249 competitors. He was joined in the elimination rounds of Declamation by Lexie Davila and Mickey Lewis who both reached the octafinal round. Alex Lim reached the semfinals of Dramatic Performance placing 8th out of 274 competitors. JR Cobb and Nitya Nalamothu reached the octafinals of Extemporaneous Speaking placing them in the top 60 of 253 competitors. In Lincoln Douglas Debate Emily Wang finished prelims with a perfect record of 5-0 and reached the Double Octafinal round before be eliminated on a split 2-1 decision. She was joined in the eliminations rounds of LD by Natasha Sachar and Bryan Fang both of whom were eliminated in the Triple Octafinal round on spilt decisions. This places Emily in the top 32, and Bryan and Natasha the top 64 of 255 competitors. In Public Forum Debate the teams of Adam Farris and Andrew Lake and Han Zhang and Aryan Nair both reached the Triple Octafinal round placing them in the top 64 of 236 teams. Finally Will Capps reached the quarterfinals of Student Congress after placing 2nd in his preliminary chamber placing him in the top 96 of 246 competitors.
