8 CA students competed virtually in the Carolina East district qualifer in Debate over the weekend of March 26th and 27th. After five preliminary rounds all teams with winning records advanced to a double elmination bracket to determine the national qualifers. 7 of the 8 CA students competing advanced with Adam Levin and Ayan Jung emerging as the champions of Public Forum debate after going undefeated in prelims and reaching the final round of the undefeated bracket in the elimination rounds. The team of Fiona Hu and Ella Zhang placed 6th and were the 3rd alternates to Nationals after being eliminated in the 3rd elimination round. In Lincoln Douglas Debate Bryan Fang place 6th and was the 3rd alternate to Nationals after being eliminated in the 5th elimination round. Natasha Sachar was placed 8th and Rohen Giralt 9th after being eliminated in the 3rd and 4th elimination round respectively. Casey Powell was already auto-qualified for Nationals in Lincoln Douglas Debate after placing 14th at NSDA Nationals last year. This is the tenth straight year CA has qualified to Nationals in LD.
14 members of the CA Speech and Debate competed virtually in the Carolina East District Qualifier in speech the weekend of March 19th and 20th. At the end of two days of intense competition the following students qualifed in their respective events to compete in the National Speech and Debate Tournament to be held in Lousiville Kentucky in June:
