27 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate competed virtually over the weekend of December 18th and 19th at the second annual Grey Matter Invitational. In Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate CA had 5 competitors reach the elimination rounds including the top two seeds and only undefeated debaters in the preliminary rounds. Simrem Mehta was eliminated in the octafinal round, Rebecca Liu and Annie Boyse were eliminated in the quarterfinal round, Riley Ro in the semifinal round; and Derek Han advanced to the final round were he was named the tournament runner up after losing on a split 2-1 decision. Rebecca Liu was the 3rd Place Speaker in Novice LD and Riley Ro was the 5th Place Speaker. In Novice Public Forum the team of Dillan Jagannath and Alex Liu reached the semifinal round and Dillan was the 3rd Place Speaker and Alex was 5th. Emma Zhang advanced to the final session of Congressional Debate where she placed 6th. In Declamation CA had four students reach the final round with Isabel Chang placing 1st and being recognized as the Top Novice, Hailey Zhang 2nd, Callie Chang 5th, and Sophia Lokitz 6th. CA also had 3 reach the final round of Impromptu Speaking. Isabel Chang was the Top Novice and placed 3rd, Annika Kadumpalli was 4th, and Tyler Smith was 6th.
53 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the fourth Dogwood League tournament of the season on Saturday December 11th. CA won first place sweepstakes for the fourth time this season and thrid time at a Dogwood tournament. The team's victory was based on the following individual students' placements:

The team matched it best ever finish at this tournament placing 5th in overall sweepstakes just as we did in 2016 and 2020. 9 of CA's speech entries advanced to the elimination rounds with Andrew Lim and Tess Courts reaching the final round of Declamation placing 2nd and 8th respectively. JR Cobb, Nitya Nalamothu, and Maris James all reached the quarterfinal round of Extemporaneous Speaking; and JR, Nitya, Maris, and Christain Herrera all broke to the quarterfinal round of Impromptu Speaking with JR advancing to the semifinal round before being eliminated. Andrew Lim double broke as well reaching the quarterfinal round of Original Oratory, and Mickey Lewis placed 3rd in Oral Interpretation. On the debate side CA had 4 LDers advance to the elimination rounds the most of any school. Rohen Giralt and Anna Titcomb were octafinalists, Casey Powell lost in quarterfinals on a split 2-1 decision, and Natasha Sachar lost in semifinals on a split 2-1 decision. Natasha was the second place speaker and Casey was the 3rd Place Speaker. In Public Forum Debate the team of Fiona Hu and Ella Zhang reached the double octafinal round, and in Student Congress Will Capps reached the semifinal round after placing 4th in his prelim chamber.
