27 members of the CA Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the Patriot Games Classic hosted by George Mason University over the weekend of December 4th and 5th. The team matched it best ever finish at this tournament placing 5th in overall sweepstakes just as we did in 2016 and 2020. 9 of CA's speech entries advanced to the elimination rounds with Andrew Lim and Tess Courts reaching the final round of Declamation placing 2nd and 8th respectively. JR Cobb, Nitya Nalamothu, and Maris James all reached the quarterfinal round of Extemporaneous Speaking; and JR, Nitya, Maris, and Christain Herrera all broke to the quarterfinal round of Impromptu Speaking with JR advancing to the semifinal round before being eliminated. Andrew Lim double broke as well reaching the quarterfinal round of Original Oratory, and Mickey Lewis placed 3rd in Oral Interpretation. On the debate side CA had 4 LDers advance to the elimination rounds the most of any school. Rohen Giralt and Anna Titcomb were octafinalists, Casey Powell lost in quarterfinals on a split 2-1 decision, and Natasha Sachar lost in semifinals on a split 2-1 decision. Natasha was the second place speaker and Casey was the 3rd Place Speaker. In Public Forum Debate the team of Fiona Hu and Ella Zhang reached the double octafinal round, and in Student Congress Will Capps reached the semifinal round after placing 4th in his prelim chamber.
