8 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually in the Tarheel Forensic League State Championship over the weekend of March 20-21. In spite of the limited number of students competing CA placed 4th in overall sweepstakes, thrid in speech sweepstakes, and had two students crowned individual state champions. Katherine He was the champion of Informative Speaking as well as double breaking to finals placing 3rd in Original Oratory. Sophia Liu also double broke to finals winning Impromptu Speaking and placing 6th in Informative Speaking. Nitya Nalamothu placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking and Julia Young placed 6th in Impromptu Speaking. Allie Chandler reached the quarterfinal round of Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate as well.
24 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed in the Tarheel East NSDA District Tournament for Speech and Debate events hosted virtually over the weekend of March 13th-14th. CA had an outstanding showing winning speech sweepstakes and finishing second overall in sweepstakes and adding an additional 11 qualifers to the National Tournament in June. CA also has a 21 year streak of having at least one Extemper qualify for Nationals, as well as nine year streak of qualifying in Lincoln Douglas Debate. |
