Four members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed virtually over the weekend of November 19th thru 20th in the Glenbrooks tournament hosted by Glenbrook North and South High Schools. The teams of Fiona Hu and Rebecca Liu and Nash Brown and Adam Levin both reached the Double Octafinals of Varsity Public Forum Debate placing in the top 32 of 170 teams. Adam Levin was the 5th Place Speaker and Rebecca Liu was 19th.
10 members of the CA Speech and Debate team traveled to Asheville to compete in the Cougar Classic hosted by Asheville High School on Saturday November 19th. Emma Zhang was the champion of Informative Speaking, while Michael Singleton placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking and 4th in Impromptu Speaking. Riley Ro placed 7th in Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate.
62 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team made the short trip to Cary High School on Saturday November 12th to compete in the third Dogwood Speech and Debate League tournament of the year. For the fourth time this year and the third time at a Dogwood tournament CA was the overall sweepstakes champion. Mason Herr was named the champion of Congressional Debate, while Rebecca Liu and Kajal Parmar were the runners-up in Open Lincoln Douglas Debate and Impromptu Speaking respectively. Sarah Hussain also placed 4th in Open LD.
Four CA Speech and Debate team members traveled to Gainesville Florida during the final week of October to particpate in the Florida Blue Key tournament hosted by the University of Florida. Ayan Jung and Adam Levin were octafinalist in Varsity Public Forum Debate placing in the top 16 of 120 entries. Ayan was also the 7th place speaker and Adam was 13th. The team of Fiona Hu and Ella Zhang participated in the Blue Key Round Robin as well.
62 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team competed in the second Dogwood League tournament of the year held at Enloe High School in Raleigh on Saturday October 22nd. For the fifth Dogwood tournament in a row and third tournament this season CA was recognized as the overall sweepstakes winner based on the teams overall performance. In spite of the limited number of competitors the team was recognized as the percentage sweepstakes winner given to the school with the highest percentage of their entries placing. After an intense weekend of competition CA emerged as the overall sweepstakes champions placing first overall out of 87 schools representing 27 different states. The team had one of its strongest showings ever at this prominent early season tournament exceling in both the speech and debate events. On the speech side all three of CA's entry reached the semifinal round- Andrew Lim in Dramatic Interpretation. Jacob Farris in Informative Speaking, and Isabel Chang in Original Oratory. On the debate side Rebecca Liu was both the champion and the top speaker in Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate. She was joined in the elimination rounds of JV LD by Derek Han who reached the semifinal round and was also the 6th Place Speaker, and Allen Huang who reached the octafinal round. In Varsity Public Forum the team of Ella Zhang and Fiona Hu reached the semifinal round before eliminated, and were joined in the elimination rounds by the team of Adam Levin and Ayan Jung who were eliminated in Triple Octafinals.
49 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team traveled to Southern Pines on Saturday September 24th to compete in the first Dogwood League tournament of the season hosted by Pinecrest High School. The team turned in a dominate performance winning overall sweepstakes with strong performances in both speech and debate.
