Four Cary Academy students traveled to Philadelphia over Memorial Day weekend to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League's Grand National Tournament. Ted Waechter was a semifinaist in Congressional Debate, and just missed advancing to finals after being nominated in his semifinal chamber, missing out on a finals slot after a student vote. This showing placed him in the top 40 of over 220 competitors. Hannah Hubbard reached the Octafinal round in Lincoln Douglas Debate placing her in the top 16 of 215 competitors. Carrie Schellenberger also competed in LD placing in the top 50 with a winning record of 3-2. Bill Peebles tied for 48th out of 208 entries in Extemporaneous Speaking and missed breaking to octafinals by the slimmest of margins. Thank you to parent Susan Peebles for judging and chaperoning students on the trip.
