For the third straight year Cary Academy has the State Champion in Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate as freshman Chelsea Fang won the title at the Tarheel Forensic League State Tournament hosted by Myers Park High School the weekend of March 6th-7th. Both Fang and Oonagh Stevans competed prelims with 4-1 records and advanced to the elimination rounds as the 4th and 5th seeds respectively. Stevens lost in the ocatfinal round on a spit 2-1 decision, while Fang advanced to the final round winning her octafinal, quarterfinal, and semifinal rounds on 3-0 decisions. She won the final round on a split 2-1 decision. She follows in the footsteps of Laura Cabana and Grace Jin who took home the same title in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Former CA Director of Forensics and founder of the CA speech and Debate Program Carole Hamilton was inducted into the TFL Hall of Fame at the tournament as well when she was awarded with the Sutherland Circle of Honor.
