12 Cary Academy students traveled to Fort Lauderdale Florida over Memorial Day Weekend to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament hosted at Nova High School and Nova Southeastern University. The team had an outstanding showing led by Evan Ehrhardt who reached the final round of Oral Interpretation placing 5th out of a field of 232 competitors. Jack Stafford advanced to the semifinals of Congressional Debate after placing third in his preliminary chamber, and the Public Forum team of Daisy Gray and Bill Peebles went 4-1 but failed to clear to the elimination rounds due to ballot count. This was the largest contingent CA has ever had qualify to compete at this prestigious national championship, and the first time a CA speech competitor has advanced to the final round of a major national championship tournament.
