13 Cary Academy students traveled to New York City to participate in the invitational tournament hosted by Columbia University over the weekend of January 25-27. The team had a fantastic showing with 8 of the 13 students reaching the elimination rounds of their respective events. In LD, Hannah Hubbard reached the triple octafinal round and Alexis Williams the octafinal round. Alexis was also the 7th place speaker. In Public Forum the team of Sam Title and Neil Lewis reached the double octafinal round. Bill Peebles reached the semifinals in Extemporaneous Speaking placing 10th out of 66 competitors. In Congress Michael Averell won his preliminary chamber, Ted Waechter placed second in his, and Serena Advani third. All three advanced to the finals of Congress where Ted placed third overall. CA alum Lauren Moore (Extemp '12) judged for the team, and CA alums Kevin Cotter (LD '07) and Allen Yang (PF '12) visited with the team as well.
