16 members of the Cary Academy Speech and Debate team traveled to New York City over the fall break weekend of October 12th -14th to participate in the New York City Invitational hosted by the Bronx High School of Science. Students competed against a field that consisted of 153 schools from 27 states. 5 Cary Academy students reached the elimination rounds in their respective events led by Grace Wissink and Ava Autry who both broke in Program of Oral Interpretation. Grace went on to reach the final round of POI placing 5th overall. Becca Segal and Claudia Zimmerman both broke in Extemporaneous Speaking reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated, and RJ Jain was a semifinalist in Congressional Debate.
